BMI Calculator: How to find out your BMI?

Introduction: Overweight according to age or underweight or overweight according to height are signs of health problems. That's why a person should be aware of how much weight should be according to height and age.

What is BMI?

BMI (Body Mass Index) is a method of estimating a person's health level or fat content by analyzing the ratio of body weight to height. Which person is less weight compared to his physical height and build? Or gross health? Or normal health?

Table Of Content:BMI calculation gives an idea of that. Belgian mathematician Adolphe Quetelet invented this BMI method in 1859. The relationship of BMI with health is highly correlated.

Relationship between BMI and health:

BMI helps determine health risks by analyzing the ratio of height and weight. In particular, it reveals the risk or possibility of weight-related diseases.

Overweight (BMI 25-29.9): In this case, excess weight-related diseases such as diabetes, stroke, heart disease, osteoarthritis, insomnia, thyroiditis, etc. increase the risk of diseases. Being overweight increases the risk of high blood pressure.

Obesity (BMI more than 30): A BMI more than 30 makes the above diseases more dangerous and important.

Underweight (BMI below 18.5): A BMI below this value, i.e. being underweight, can lead to various problems including fatigue, weakness, weak immune system, low blood pressure, and reproductive problems.

Ideal weight according to age and height?

There are several rules for determining ideal weight like body mass index (BMI), weight-for-height chart, fat measurement, etc. The most common of these is the Body Mass Index (BMI) method and the use of "weight-for-height charts". However, the benefits of all methods must be considered according to the situation and needs.

How to determine BMI:

The rules for determining BMI are:

Body Mass Index (BMI)=Weight(KG)/Height(meters)²

The result of weight according to BMI values or weight according to height chart is given below. A BMI value of less than 18.5 is considered underweight.

If it is above 25 to 29.9 it will be considered overweight.

18.5 to 24.9 would be considered normal weight.

A BMI value of more than 30 is considered obese.

Calculate BMI Practically:

Let's now learn hands-on how to calculate BMI using a person's height and weight.

If a person weighs 65 kg and his height is 5 feet 5 inches, the BMI calculation will be as follows-

First, we convert the height to meters. And weight is required in kg so always take the weight as kg.

Weight = 65kg

Height=1.651m (converting 5 feet 5 inches to meters)

BMI=weight(kg)/height(m)²

BMI=65kg/(1.651)²

BMI=65kg/2.725801

=23.84kg

Now we will compare from the chart below 23. 84 kg BMI indicates what type of body structure.

Judging from the above chart, we can see that a BMI of 23.84 refers to the normal weight for a person's height.

This BMI can be calculated in two ways. I have used the metric system here. This method is most commonly used. Besides, another method of calculating BMI is the Imperial system. The imperial system system is most commonly used in the United States (US).
